Thank you for your support!

What is the Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA)?
The ACA is an annual campaign of the Archdiocese of Seattle that begins in April each year. This campaign supports over 60 programs and ministries serving our brothers and sisters throughout Western Washington, from Vancouver to Blaine, Forks to Snoqualmie. This includes dozens of pastoral care and outreach ministries – many of which are ministries that no one parish family could offer alone. These include hospital and healthcare ministry, prison ministry, immigrant and refugee ministry, the disability inclusion ministry, and many more. The Chancery, also known as the Central Offices of the local Catholic Church, provides centralized services for parishes and schools, such as Lifelong Faith Formation, liturgy guidance, Human Resources, Office for Catholic Schools, building and construction support, priest support, deacon formation, lay ecclesial ministry and much more.

How does the ACA support my parish?
The ACA provides centralized services for your pastor and parish staff members, such as pastoral education and resources, property and construction, human resources, financial services, communication, information technology, and more. The ministries and services of the Chancery are committed to serving staff at every parish. Centralizing these services is cost effective and allows parishes to spend more time on fostering their parish and community. With your support, we can simplify workloads improve communication and elevate the faith journey for every person within our archdiocese.

Is important to give to the ACA when I already give to my parish?
Your Annual Catholic Appeal donation helps fund ministries and services that benefit people across parishes, cities, cultures, and generations. What one parish cannot do alone, we can do together. Programs and ministries supported by the Annual Catholic Appeal benefit the wider Catholic community of Western Washington. The archdiocese is responsible for funding seminarian education and resources, promoting and identifying 9 potential vocations to the diaconate and priesthood, and sponsoring the education of lay ecclesial ministers. The ACA is a great opportunity for us to partake in the mission shared amongst all the baptized, to foster the Kingdom of God so that we may all have an opportunity to encounter Christ and accompany one another on that journey.

Why does our archdiocese conduct an Annual Catholic Appeal?
Each year, the archbishop asks for the participation of more than 1 million Catholics living in the Archdiocese of Seattle to support the Annual Catholic Appeal. He asks us to generously support the many ongoing ministries of the Church that provide educational, pastoral, and charitable outreach to those living in the archdiocese. The Annual Catholic Appeal provides much needed support to fund the archdiocesan ministries each year. The other funding comes from parish assessments, investment income, and other donations.

Why does my parish have to pay an annual “assessment” as well as run the Annual Catholic Appeal?
The operational overhead costs of the archdiocese are supported by our parishes in the form of an “assessment.” Each parish is assessed as a percentage of their total assessable income (with some adjustments for restricted income, capital expenditures, and schools.) This assessment is one of the lowest rates in the country because of the Annual Catholic Appeal.

How is each parish goal set?
Every year, parish Annual Catholic Appeal goals are calculated using the parish’s adjusted ordinary income (ordinary income minus net school support = adjusted ordinary income) over the past fiscal year multiplied by a flat percentage rate to achieve the final ACA goal for each parish. This formula was established to provide a simple, transparent, and fair system of parish support for the Annual Catholic Appeal.
